They have a "slight" advantage by having an almost finished game already, and all without kickstarter. :)

yeah, they're a studio with a history of producing rpgs, but they were asking for 400k and this
was kinda my point about why you needed a big demo if you were looking for 100s of k. :) If you're asking for a smaller amount I think you'd be able to provide a smaller demo, and even mock up combat rather than the real thing. It depends on your goal.

My point is, the money they were asking for was not going to support the development of a full RPG, because not even 1 M is enough to feed that many people, buy equipment for them and rent an office like that for, say, 2 years. Also, if you get any kind of amount through Kickstarter, you must immediately deduct 1/3 of it (Kickstarter fee, Amazon fee, Taxes).

Yeah, I agree with you, its definitely a quandry. You need to balance realistic goals against available resources, and I appreciate thats not an easy job when you don't have much in the way of resources.

Anyway, whatever you guys bring to kickstarter, I'll back it - I'm just hoping other people do too! Do you have any thoughts about when it might happen?

Not yet. :)

Please feel free to add your thoughts to other topics too. We need as much feedback as possible.

BTW, what's your opinion about IndieGoGo?

will do!

I think Indiegogo is a good site. It seems to get less exposure than kickstarter though, and I think many people immediately associate it with flexible funding campaigns and are therefore a bit suspicious of it. For widest exposure, and to avoid potential naysaying about flexible funding, I'd go with kickstarter.

Many people hate IndieGoGo because of the Flexible Funding feature, that's for sure.

We are creating graphical assets and coding stuff for the demo. Since we lack the manpower, it's a slow process.
Also, I'm testing the entire game in NWN, eliminating story bugs, making balance adjustments and whatnot.
