Steam Greenlight?

Postby erbkaiser » Mon Oct 08, 2012 11:25 am

Have you considered putting Tortured Hearts up on Steam Greenlight?
I admit I have no idea how feasible this would be, given that the game still needs funding to be finished, but it seems to me that Greenlight might be a good way to find out if there is a potential audience for it. This might help in getting more attention from a publisher, or is that wishful thinking?

Yes, we've been considering this, but first, we'll have to produce a playable demo or something.
What are your experiences on SG?

Greenlight has become the way to get accepted for release by Steam. There is plenty of buzz in game trade journals about this and what the results are as Greenlight evolves. For instance: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/09/not-g ... des-story/. On the one hand I can be very sympathetic toward Valve for wanting a way to prioritize their offerings. On the other hand, Greenlight is now mobbed. Another article I read compared it to looking through Kickstarters and trying to figure out what is a good bet. But in any event, we will have to finish the game to put it on Greenlight, it seems.

Since I wrote the above, I've become aware that Greenlight apparently has featured games which are far from ready to ship, so maybe it is more of a possibility after all.

You only need a video, a title picture and at least 4 screenshot to put TH On Greenlight. Oh, and $100 submission fee which goes to charity. You really should consider it!

We are considering it furiously. The one thing that is a concern is that people can get too much advance hype about games and end up totally burned out on the whole thing before the game ever gets launched. Timing is everything, as usual.
